I know what you are going to say because it was said then as well, "I believe help my unbelief" them, and ye shall have them."
Mark 11:22-24 (ASV)
"Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."
Mark 11:24 (ASV)
So what is the matter with us, why do we not believe? The reason we do not have them is only by not believing. Why can't we read the scriptures, believe the scriptures, and see the scriptures come alive? This is not beyond our reach or our privilege. Christ gave us these words and He expected us to be able to use them to live a life of purpose and significance. We have become heirs and joint heirs with Christ. Do you understand this? Do you believe this?
Step 1: "because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved". Romans 10:9 (ASV) Now I do not want you to spiritualize this or try to search the meaning of salvation, just answer the question, have you done this? Yes or No. You need to take this first step before you can go any further.
Step 2: "So that thou art no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God." Gal 4:6-7 (ASV) So now you are an Heir! What does that mean to you? You are no longer a stranger to God. You are no longer considered a slave. You are now a legitimate son. Your have rights that no one else has who does not belong to the family. How much more, now that we are sons, can we rely of God's word. Jesus is our brother, God is our Father, and the Holy Spirit is our power. That sound like a pretty strong family to me.
Step 3 "And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do." John 14:13-14 (ASV) Whatsoever I ask in His name, that is a powerful statement. Lets not get into the hermeneutics of that statement, lets just accept it for what it says. Do you understand the importance of that statement of Fact? You have in your possession the right to ask for your inheritance. Remember the prodigal son? He asked his father for his inheritance before his father had passed away and he received it. I realize that most people only see the return of the son after he made a mess out of his life. The truth of the matter is that he could have lived happily ever after just as easily if he understood what it was that he had. He had the inheritance that was his, all of it. Now with God we could never hold all of our inheritance, but we could hold enough to change our lives. Have you ever ask the Father for your inheritance? Maybe you don't realize yet that you are now an heir and joint heir with Christ. Christ understood His inheritance. "Looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Heb 12:2 (ASV) What do you suppose is your inheritance? It has to be grand I would say. But first you must claim it.
Step 4 "But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt 6:33 (ASV) This is were most of us will part company. I have had more discussions over this verse then any other. People want to put the 'added unto to' before the 'seek first'. When the rent is due and the money is tight we want the material before the spiritual. The food before the prayer. It is hard to live within the boundaries of the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples. "Give us this day our daily bread". Notice the word daily? This is not weekly or monthly or yearly, as much as we would like it to be. It is for this day only. Remember the manna in the wilderness? If you tried to collect enough for the next day it would rot. Only enough for this day. That is hard! That is impossible for most in this day and age of instant gratification. We want all if it and will only see the answer if all of it comes. God does not operate that way so change is in order. We must conform to the image of Christ , not the other way around. Jesus does not become like us, we need to become like Him. Now we begin to see the break down of our prayers being answered. Our priorities are wrong. Yes we are heirs and yes we can ask God for our inheritance, and yes we can have a better life, but it comes at a price.
